EDM Foundations
Do any of these sound familiar?
Endlessly watching random YouTube tutorials but making no clear progress?
Trying to make your tracks sound pro, but something always feels thin, muddy, or just 'off'.
Staring at a blank DAW screen with zero inspiration (or clue where to start)?
Craving a clear, step-by-step system instead of random tips that don't connect.
Totally lost on how everything fits together—arrangement, mixing, etc?
Frustrated that others seem to “get it,” while you’re still spinning your wheels?

Meet Your Expert Instructors
Taught by producers with a combined 30+ years of experience
Connor O'Brien
Main Course InstructorMy original productions have gained over 3 million streams on Spotify and YouTube, with features by Billboard and Earmilk. I teach the Ableton Live and Logic Pro version of EDM Foundations. I'm also the instructor of Songwriting For Producers.
Sam Matla
Founder & Course InstructorI'm the founder of EDMProd and co-author of EDM Foundations, our flagship course that's helped over 7,160 producers master the fundamentals of electronic music production since I launched the first version almost 10 years ago! I teach the FL Studio version of the course.
Aden Russell
Course InstructorWith 12+ years of music production experience, I'm the instructor of the bonus Serum Masterclass. I produce D&B under Artsea and my pastimes include reading, drinking coffee, and taking photos.
What do I need?
Any of the three major DAWs + Xfer Serum (or Xfer Serum 2)
- Ableton Live: We recommend the Standard Edition. Suite is fine, but not necessary.
- FL Studio: The Producer Edition or above is suitable.
- Logic Pro: There is only one version!
- Serum: Either Serum or Serum 2 is fine. You'll likely get Serum 2 if you're completely new to production. The course is taught using Serum, but you'll still be able to follow along using Serum 2
A note on trial versions: We strongly recommend you purchase the full version of your DAW. While you may be able to get by to some degree with a trial, there are usually limitations around saving projects, among other features.

Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about the course.
All you need is a computer, a copy of a DAW, and headphones (or monitors). We also strongly recommend Xfer Serum.
Throughout the course, we predominately use stock (built-in) plugins and devices for each DAW, meaning you don’t need to spend hundreds on third-party plugins.
Yes, all videos from both the Ableton Live and FL Studio versions of the EDM Foundations course have accurate English captions. The Logic Pro version does not.
The bonus courses do not have captions. All videos and courses are presented in the English language.
The course itself consists of online videos, split up by walkthroughs and modules.
You’ll also get access to the project files, samples and presets you need.
Since this course is focused on teaching you the fundamentals, the principles learned can be applied to ALL genres of electronic music.
For the 4 walkthroughs, we cover a wide variety of genres: future bass, future house, trap, and electronic pop. However, these genres are just examples and are designed to teach you universal skills.
There are further genre walkthroughs at the end for other genres, which will help you when creating your own original.
A common concern people have when signing up to a course of this size is that they’ll run out of time and fall behind.
That can’t happen with this program as it’s self-paced. You can go through it in a matter of weeks if you’re extremely diligent and have a lot of time, or you can go through it at a slower pace and take it all in. Whether it takes weeks, months, or even years—it doesn’t matter. You’ll always have access to the course material.
Although EDM Foundations is taught in Ableton Live, FL Studio & Logic Pro X, you can use practically any other DAW and still follow along just fine.
You may just need to Google something here and there to figure out how it works in your DAW.
As long as you know your DAW well, it shouldn't be an issue. Worst case scenario, it's too hard to follow along and you can ask for a refund :)
It depends.
Are you consistently finishing music that you’re proud of? Do you feel like you have a solid grasp of the fundamentals?
If so, then it’s probably not for you. But if you’ve been producing for a while but feel like you never really got a good start—I recommend it.
The EDM Foundations course is completely online-based.
As soon as you make your payment, you’ll be instantly enrolled in the course platform and you can start the course straight away.
This course is a few years old now. There are some minor discrepancies between newer versions of Ableton Live, FL Studio and Logic Pro, but nothing that stalls progress during the course. If you're using a newer version of these DAWs, you'll still be able to follow along just fine.
We are planning to update EDM Foundations in 2026 with an entirely new version, built from the ground-up. You'll get this new version for free if you're already a student.
While we recommend you go through the course in 4 weeks, EDM Foundations is a self-paced course.
You can go through it as quickly or as slowly as you like. If you have a busy schedule, no worries. Take your time. You have lifetime access to this material. It’s not going anywhere.
This is a fully comprehensive course that teaches you electronic music production from the foundations up – step-by-step.
You won’t find anything this comprehensive just lying around on YouTube – and while you might find a few tips or tricks that we use throughout this course in a tutorials, it won’t provide you with the full picture.
We're happy to help. Email us at support@edmprod.com and we'll get back to you ASAP.
